Bristol University has invested £5m to extend and future-proof its Indoor Sports Centre gym facility to meet demand from its growing student membership.
Physical activity among students has grown from 7,500 to 12,500 over the last three years representing more than half of the university’s student population.
As part of the refurbishment project, the first-floor gym has been relocated to the ground floor and a 245sq m functional training zone has been created on the first floor. Overall, the project has provided 30 per more space and doubled the number of workout stations. Three studios host more than 100 classes a week.
The facility has been equipped by Matrix who supplied a wide range of cardio equipment, functional training rigs, racks and strength equipment. The layout encourages people to work side-by-side making it ideal for students to exercise together and in small groups.
